Schools Day success

A great day was had by all (including the children) at our BBA stall during the Schools Countryside Day on 19th May when Springwood Park welcomed ~ 1200 Primary 5 children from schools across the Borders. The show focuses on learning about all aspects of farming and food production.

The BBA stall was VERY busy – children had the opportunity to look for the queen in our observation hive, choose their colours for an encaustic bookmark, and make a rolled beeswax candle.

We made 300 candles – an accurate figure as we actually ran out of wax sheets and we guess probably the same number of bookmarks.

The volunteers enjoyed chatting with the children and answering their (often tricky) questions and promoting our lovely bees.

If anyone would like to get involved next year, please don't hesitate to put your name forward.

BBA aprons aired for the first time! We now have some aprons embroidered with our BBA logo to be worn at events. They were on display for the first time at the Schools Day and they look great!
