Matthew Richardson Talk – Mead: Brewing with Honey

Whitsome Village Hall was the venue for a very interesting talk on Mead - Brewing with honey by Matthew Richardson.

Matthew had long been interested in brewing and baulking at the price of honey to make mead, thought it might be cheaper to get bees to create his own supply. Now a beekeeper for 18 years, Matthew is just about breaking even!

Matthew talked about the history of mead and gave a very comprehensive guide on how to use up all that 'fizzy' baker’s honey, which we end up with from time to time.

Sharing his experiences and advising on the pitfalls, Matthew produced a lovely medium crystal clear mead for us all to taste, showing how it can be done.

The evening finished with a lovely tea and cake from members of the Association.

Suitably enthused, I’m now off to the charity shop to find some demijohns and a hydrometer.
